REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TEHRAN -- The Indonesian government has not made any plans to evacuate its nationals from Iran. The Indonesian Embassy in Tehran noted that there are as many as 329 Indonesian citizens (WNI) still surviving in Iran. Indonesia's Ambassador Extraordinary to Iran, Roy Soemirat, conveyed to the Republika that all WNIs who were officially registered in embassies and temporary residence in several cities in Iran, were confirmed to be in good condition, and survived the passage of the Zionists Israel-United States (USA) to the Iran.

“Until now, there are no reports of WNI being directly physically affected, nor reports of any security threats targeting our citizens (WNI) specifically,” Roy said when contacted from Jakarta, Monday (2/3/2026) early in the morning. He said that of the 329 WNIs that still survive in Iran, it is dominated by academics, as well as students. Among them, most are domiciled in Tehran, and Qom on the southern side of the capital.

“As for evacuations, at the moment we haven't done it,” Roy said. He explained that the evacuation decision must be based on an order from the Indonesian Government in Jakarta. Even the evacuation policy, Roy said, was carried out under the full authority of the Indonesian government.

“The policy regarding evacuation remains the full authority of the Central Government in Jakarta, which is based on a comprehensive risk assessment to ensure the success of operations on the ground, and the technical details of the current contingency plan are confidential,” he said.

The Indonesian Embassy in Iran, said Roy remained committed to the principle that when an evacuation of the country is carried out, it must be given an accurate rescue priority. “KBRI firmly adheres to the principle that any decision regarding relief or evacuation must be made appropriately, measuredly, and safety-first. And it's not just chasing speed but it's risky for residents,” Roy said.

Earlier, Roy also spoke about his authority in Tehran who appealed for all WNI nodes in Iran to remain in communication to ensure the state and safety.
